sign in the road behind me, diversion signs abundant, why on earth do drivers not follow the diversion sign but feel the need to zoom along the road and screech to a halt, then only to find they need to turn round, as the road, er, well, was closed?

Don't think I'd fancy being a passenger of a driver who can't read the sign :-D

exactly Fluffpot x

Why is it that people need to be intelligent(?!) enough to pass a test and then be completely thick afterwards!

anyhoo, how's you and murph?
ok, shes her usual annoying demanding self.....

i always fancy sausage rolls when i see your name pop up :-)
Question Author
so, all's normal with Murph :-D

Dunno how to take that last comment LOL (in fact I'm chortling away!)

I'm quite sure others say worse :-) :-)
I do a lot of road planing with my truck (have done today in fact) and as you say, nowadays most works are signed well ahead. It does get confusing when two seperate places are closed , so you have two sets of diversions ("which do I follow?"), but my most often asked question, normally after a car has followed me for the last 3 miles, past 4 or 5 'RAC' signs and we get to the closure with the Road Closed sign (where I put on my flashing lights and go through). I often wait for the guy behind to get out of the car and come up to me with the inevitable question "can I get through here?". I reply "what does the sign say?". He says "road closed". I say " which of those two words have you got a problem with?". It never ceases to amaze me how often people will drive 4 or 5 miles past loads of pre warning signs and are really annoyed to find the road really is closed!
It's probably because the signs are about a mile ahead of where (and if) it's actually closed. I generally ignore the signs and haven't ever had to turn round. They should just put them on the actual road.
Question Author
dean! I likes you and your attitude :-D

Pixie, short road, signs are before the only little slip for a diversion, but they've kept access to the cematory open as they've not closed that bit of the road.
At least they're working on the road instead of closing it and forgetting!
mud on rod is a good one round here. you then hear visitors complaining about how dirty their cars and the mud left by tractors. what do they expect it has been raining and the fields being ploughed are muddy. perhaps they think someone is going to come along and wash them down. fat chance.
Question Author
I've just noticed I can't spell cematery.

(even then, that is underlined, I pass!)

LJ, when in rural areas and countryside, townies and city-dwellers are as thick as the proverbial.
that could be an insult to wood.
Question Author
lol, I never thought about wood.

As thick as mince was the closest I could come :-D
got road works near us,with a 25 mile diversion route, lorries going wrong way down 1 way systems
Heres a sign of the times. In Kettering at the moment a diversion is set up. Sign says "Diverted traffic. Ignore your sat nav"!!
There is a road closed at the moment near where I live. I found someone coming towards me the wrong way down a one way street clearly marked no entry when they had reached that point. I stopped him and said this is a one way street. He didnt say much so I told him he must turn round and go back. How are people able to completely ignore very large no entry signs????
I'm surprised he didn't say "Thats OK, I'm only going one way!"
Nothing to do with roads but the next time you see a 'Wet Paint' sign, have a look at all the fingerprints next to it.
