Is the Man Utd fan who was battered over the head before the Man United vs Southampton game last season. I believe he came out of a coma, does anyone know if he is now OK?

I ask because I attended the match myself, and the incident occurred some 100 metres from my front door.

I can tell you that he did indeed come out of the coma, but he is still not ok. It will be years before all the effects of the attack subside, if they ever do. He has a brain injury and it meant that for some months he was unable to feed or dress himself. His speech and cognative functions were affected. He cannot see properly and his movements on the left side are still affected, although he has recovered miraculously from being paralysed on one side. He is still waiting for the operation to replace his skull, removed during brain surgery. He suffers continual headaches and constant fatigue and it is likely to be a long time before he is well enough to work in any capacity; it is unlikely he'll ever return to his old profession due to his difficulties communicating .

Seems a bit extreme for someone minding their own business walking along to watch a football match!

I'd be interested to know how local people feel about this. I understand several good people helped him after the attack and called an ambulance.
