/// At 7pm the unnamed gay couple approached him and asked what he thought of gay people. ///
/// He said it did not matter what he thought, only what God believes, telling them: 'whilst God hates sin He loves the sinner'. ///
/// Mr Craven then claimed the teenagers began kissing in front of him and taunting him with crude and suggestive sexual acts. Shortly afterwards the preacher was arrested. ///

No reason. I didn't realise I would have to be so prescriptive when referring to the Middle East, especially as naomi24 understood what I meant.
Anyway, back to the point, rather than this side road...I don't think the two blokes should have been arrested...and perhaps the reason they weren't is that there were witnesses?

/// But the point is that being gay doesn't automatically make one "non wicked or evil".///
I think you are misunderstanding what I put, I put that being gay doesn't automatically make one 'NON' wicked or evil.
Meaning that gays can also be wicked and evil..
/// So why do major religious groups across target gays for
condemnation? ///
Because although it might not fit in with certain modern day agenda and atheist groups etc, that is their religious belief.
Are you saying that just because certain groups of politicians etc, think that by a swipe of the pen, beliefs that have gone on for thousands of years, can be altered overnight?

/// SP, you know why. Because their brains are controlled by ridiculous books. ///
As an atheist, they may seem ridiculous to you Naomi, but to some they are far from ridiculous, please allow others to take part in their beliefs, just as they don't harm anyone, and disagreeing with some aspects of life is not being harmful.
We all have our own thought on matters, some of which and most likely will offend others.

// Yes I know you mentioned the Middle East, but your attacks were primarily centred against the Christian Church, why else did you refrain from mentioning the Islamic African nations? In fact you shied away from any mention of Islam or Muslims. //
Is it because sp 1814 you are actually the one & only ( shock horror ) our very own AB Gay MUSLIM ( If you answer YES,I am your friend If you answer NO , I am your friend ) Why ? Because you belong to OUR family. Come on everybody let's hear it for the glorious mix of World Famous Answerbankers

/// AOG, all you have said is that a lot of religious groups are anti-gay because they are anti-gay. would you care to say why they are anti-gay. ///
Well not being particular religious myself, I can only quote what should be obvious to everyone, it is in their teachings, therefore goes against their beliefs.

AOG - "As an atheist, they may seem ridiculous to you Naomi, but to some they are far from ridiculous, please allow others to take part in their beliefs, just as they don't harm anyone, and disagreeing with some aspects of life is not being harmful."
I would take issue that disagreeing with some aspects of life is not being harmful - millions of African children are born infected with HIV into families that are too large to feed them as a direct consequence of the Catholic church's doctrines on contraception and abortion.

You asked:
"Are you saying that just because certain groups of politicians etc, think that by a swipe of the pen, beliefs that have gone on for thousands of years, can be altered overnight?"
No. I think it takes longer than that, but not as long as some may think.
Over the weekend I heard a recent poll finding that a fifth of Britons would refuse an invitation to a same-sex wedding.
That's an amazing turnaround in a generation. Imagine that same question being polled in 1974! Would 80% of respondents say yes to such a proposition?
Totally unimaginable.
So in answer to your question, previously held beliefs can and do change (I wonder how long it took for universal voting rights for all men and women to 'bed in' for example).

AOG, //As an atheist, they may seem ridiculous to you Naomi, but to some they are far from ridiculous, please allow others to take part in their beliefs, just as they don't harm anyone, and disagreeing with some aspects of life is not being harmful.//
Oh, but it is harmful. People can believe what they like, but once their belief impinges upon someone else’s life or upon someone else's freedom of speech, their right to believe what they like is no more. Their rights stop where other people’s rights begin.
(Incidentally, if you think the books aren’t ridiculous, I can only assume you haven’t read them - oh and the fuss you're making about Muslims is just that - a fuss. I've no doubt you know what SP meant).

It's impossible to judge any situation based solely on a Daily Mail account of it. That's not just DM bashing for the sake of it - I really believe it.
However, with that disclaimer aside, it appears as if the blokes set out to deliberately provoke the preacher. Not a partcularly nice thing to do, but I doubt it's an arrestable offence. The police over-reacted, and the preacher shouldn't have been arrested either. He's received compensation for his ill-treatment.
Having got the christian angle on things, perhaps next time the people involved would like to visit the local mosque and try the same tactics. Perhaps in those circumstances, they would be the ones arrested. We can only speculate.
