Apparently only about 33% of us eat 5 pieces of fruit and veg a day, and now some researchers have suggested that we should up this to 7 a day. I work on the Welsh Health Survey and its apparent that the majority of adults in Wales barely make the 5 a day. Its always puzzled me why this figure is so low, but I suspect that many people are not counting their daily intake properly. When I point out that potatoes are vegetables, they respond by saying that they always eat plenty of them.
That is the bit I don't understand about people that say they don't eat any fruit. If it tasted horrid I could understand but a lovely fresh strawberry, in June is one of life's pleasures.
It's a matter of taste though isn't it, we're all different. Personally speaking there's not much that I don't eat except parsnips which I think are yak, papaya and Sharon fruit are double yak.
I think I eat fairly healthily, with a bit of fruit, plenty of veg -especially a big pile of spinach with almost everything, but I struggle to see how to fit in seven to ten portions in one day.
OG...yes you may be right but I find a banana is good at hitting the spot when it comes fighting the peckish monster. I am a diabetic and I am trying to get into the habit of having porridge, or similar first thing in the morning, before I go to work. I am always in a hurry, so I don't always achieve my aim. But I take two bananas with me, which usually does the trick !
I am running a one-woman vendetta against Tesco - why why why sell Spanish plums, those hard dark black things, when the farmers here in Kent were ploughing theri lovely Victoria plums back into the ground last year? it's WRONG!
Is there a way that Asian Pears can be made more interesting ? They are very bland, and I wouldn't argue with anyone who said that they tended towards tastelessness. Are they better if left to get very ripe, for instance ?
I am with boxy on those Spanish plums. Nothing is juicier and more delicious than fresh Victorias in August and September ! They are even celebrated in our national anthem ::
