/// A tribunal held at Teesside Magistrates’ Court yesterday heard evidence from Mrs Tunkara, who says her holiday request for the last 10 days of fasting during Ramadan was turned down unfairly. ///

She said that she and her husband had enjoyed their job at the Stockton base, and yet,

/// She added that the stress of working night shifts caused her to suffer a breakdown and be admitted to hospital. ///

In large organisations there are 'rules' as to when leave can be booked, how many people are allowed off at once etc

It looks like they didn't book their leave at the right time and, as a result, didn't get the period that they were asking for.

There is no obvious sign that there was any discrimination on any grounds.

Her nervous breakdown being due to shift work is a known problem with people who work nights. She probably got paid a higher was for the antisocial hours.

Religion should not enter the workplace unless agreed in employment contracts. Easter soon when christians fast for 40days. Could this couple set a precedent/compo for christians ;)
Going by the article then I don't believe they have been discriminated against.

Tambo - You know Christians that fast for 40 days? I've yet to meet 1 that fasts. They might give up beer, sweets, crisps....

///Morrisons solicitor says they failed to meet deadline for holiday requests///

Well, looks as if it could have been anyone of any religion doesn't it?

Ummm how certain are you of muslims fasting; they can eat all they want after sunset - 6ish atm.

7:35 PM, Sunset in London, UK Today
I don't care if Muslims fast or not. I said I don't know any Christians that fast whereas you said they fast for 40 days. In my upbringing and all the people I know most attempt to give up something for lent like chocolate.

If they are fasting during daylight hours I'm sure it probably was very hard working nights. Fact is though that rules are rules, they missed the deadline to book their holiday.
easy to see who wears the trousers in that household. I cannot see why the mosque should be late giving the time of fasting, the dates are known well in advance. As for working nights during the fasting it is a lot easier than working days.
How is easier? They wanted time off in August so there is a good chance they would start work before sunset.
She could eat through her nightshift. She'd probably be better off than those working days
we're all agreed that Morrisons is telling the truth and the Muslim is lying? Jolly good.

she was only working a 7 hour shift, eat before work, eat after work and sleep during the day, no problem, as an ex shift worker I do have a slight idea of night work.
That would depend when their designated breaks were.
I used to work nights as well. I found it a killer....

Saying sleep during the day is not that simple especially if she has children.
Ummm read Matthew6 16-18. Fasting is more than the western commercial easter eggs for christians.

Those 2 muslims need to fast & lose some weight.
No thanks...it's a load of nonsense.
IF as she says it made her ill then she would have been allowed to eat.
She could do with a day or 2 of fasting. She's perhaps in the wrong job, anyway, if she can't wait cope with the hours on top of her lifestyle.
As is the koran, so why the sympathy for them, ummmm
