And then what happened?

See what I mean?!
And your question is related to the COfE.

I can't think of any recent debate on UK Muslim or Jewish or Hindu attitudes to gay people here on AB.

Perhaps we (and I include you AOG, in this, as you have raised this question about Christians and gay people) are focussed on Christians, because they the widest reach and the largest constituency in the UK.

I know that there is a suspicion that other religions 'get away with it', but I strongly believe that this has nothing to do with so-called politically correct attitudes and more to do with simple mathematics.
SP, //they should be hauled before the courts...but first...they need to start breaking the law.

As Christians have done.//

They have started breaking the law - as AOG’s links demonstrate.

//I know that there is a suspicion that other religions 'get away with it', but I strongly believe that this has nothing to do with so-called politically correct attitudes and more to do with simple mathematics.//

It’s not a suspicion – they do get away with it – and it has everything to do with politically correct attitudes. They’re in the main black and they’re members of an ‘ethnic minority’ - hence any criticism, however well placed, is frowned upon.

This is a letter to The Sunday Telegraph signed by Leaders representing tens of thousands of worshippers at mosques across the country.

SIR – We have serious misgivings about the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill, which seeks to legalise gay marriage.

As imams and Muslim leaders we have a responsibility to fulfil our sacred trust to God and present our view on these proposals on behalf of the Muslim communities we serve.

Marriage is a sacred contract between a man and a woman that cannot be redefined. We believe that marriage between a man and a woman is the cornerstone of family life and the only institution within which to raise children.

We are concerned that this radical change to the institution of marriage will impact on what is taught in schools. Muslim teachers will be forced into the contradictory position of holding private beliefs, while teaching a new legal definition of marriage. Muslim parents will be robbed of their right to raise their children according to their beliefs, as gay relationships are taught as something normal to their primary-aged children.

We support the numerous calls from other faith leaders and communities who have stood firmly against gay marriage and instead support marriage as it should be, between a man and a woman.

/// I can't think of any recent debate on UK Muslim or Jewish or Hindu attitudes to gay people here on AB. ///

Yes I know this isn't recent because I posted this back in 2011 and it only attracted 6 answers.

How times change or was this because it was regarding the Islamic faith rather than Christianity?

But you are AB's leading poster on gay issues.

If you post questions about Christians/gay people...what can you expect?

What happened to the Muslim lad who was caught putting up anti-gay stickers around the East End of London?

I think there's one thing you will all agree on if religion came under the trade description act it would be out of business

It's only because I like to keep you fully occupied sp.

/// What happened to the Muslim lad who was caught putting up anti-gay stickers around the East End of London? ///

'LAD' ???? if he had been of the Christian faith I am sure you would have found another way of describing him, 'CRETIN' perhaps?
Deflection.

Did you not recently accuse me of using inflammatory words when referring to those who had opposing opinions on gay rights?

Furthermore, I've never ever used the word 'cretin'.

Ever.

/// Did you not recently accuse me of using inflammatory words when referring to those who had opposing opinions on gay rights? ///

That is why I was surprised that in this instance you chose to describe a Muslim opposer of gay rights as a 'LAD'.

/// Furthermore, I've never ever used the word 'cretin'. ///

Never said you have, it was just an example, but I am sure you have your own collection of equally offensive terms.

Deflection.

But to put this debate back on track - he was a Richardhead for putting up those stickers, but he wasn't in the same league as the (insert expletive) who harassed the gay bloke walking through the East End about 18 months ago...who still haven't been caught.
And to get this back on track - the COfE don't support gay marriage. If this had been approved by the GS, then I think it would be big news.
SP, I don’t know. What happened to him?
He was verbally abused walking down the street one night. The gay press ran *loads* of stories! appealing for him to come forward to help the police! but he didn't. It was incredibly frustrating, because what was said to him was disgusting. His abusers in my opinion, should've been jailed.

Will post the link to the video in a mo, so you can make up your own mind.

This is it. Media URL: http://youtu.be/dqwRJ6HSoU8
Description:
A Muslim lad who was caught putting up anti-gay stickers around the East End of London was verbally abused ... etc... and his abusers in your opinion, should've been jailed?

I'm not with you.

naomi24

No...two different stories.

1. Muslim bloke posting stickers staying 'Gay Free Zone' around the East End. He was caught and fined.

2. Gay bloke walking through a street in the East End accosted by a group saying that gay people weren't allowed in the area.

They haven't been caught.
