Antiques Road Show Special - Joel Halliwell V.c.
7 Answers
Did anyone watch this programme? I was baffled because Joel Halliwell was from Middleton, which is where I live. He was an extremely brave man but he was forgotten for many years. He grave was overgrown, unattended and neglected and was only found by accident when someone was looking for an unrelated grave. His family don't know where his VC is. They were given one on the AR last night. I suspect he was also forgotten by his own family until his headstone was found by someone else. For anyone who knows Middleton, Joel Halliwell was landlord of the New Inn after WW1. It's quite right that we remember the heroism of people like Joel Halliwell, but his family don't seem to "fit right" for me. How could a brave man like him have been forgotten for so long by his own family? How can they not know where his VC is? Come on the Halliwells, find that VC! Or has someone sold it and you don't want to admit it?

Why do you say that they don't know where the medal is? (The thing they were given last night was only a replica from the Roadshow, not a replacement.)
