Irish President Meets The Queen.
5 Answers
I was wondering why the Irish President was inspecting the Grenadier Guards rather than the Irish guards until I read this, which then got me wondering what peacekeeping duties need to take place in Cyprus, especially when Turkey wants to join the EU?.
/// Major Andrew Seddon, captain of the Queen’s Company Grenadier Guards, invited Mr Higgins to inspect the guard of honour, speaking to him in Irish.
The Irish Guards was represented by their regimental band as the troops are currently on peacekeeping duties in Cyprus. ///

It's a long term UN commitment. We are there as part of that.
Despite improved relations and movement between the two communities there is still a 'peaceline' and no-man's land that requires maintaining.
/especially when Turkey wants to join the EU?/
Who says any trouble would originate with the Turks?
