When Cameron and Osborne have urged him to stand, he supporters have said it is a trap.

It would be better to let Cameroon mess up the election without Johnson being tainted. Then get elected afterward by a supporter giving up a safe seat. He can the woo the 2015 Conference and become leader of the Conservative Party.

Why don't Labour grow up, Boris has not yet confirmed he will seeking a seat in the House of Commons, but if he does and still finishes out his Mayor of London term, then surely that has to be a good thing and will save a bit of money, but I forgot Labour don't know the meaning of the words "Saving Money".

i am not sure he is PM material, as much as i like him, not sure that it's a prerequisite for the job, but at this stage he would do well to continue with the Mayor job...

Its quite clear what Boris is up to here.

He knows, that as it stands at the moment, dave is not going to win the next General Election. The Tory party is notoriously unsympathetic with its failed Leaders, as Major, Hague, IDS and Howard can ruefully testify. Suffering fools gladly does not come easy to the Men in Grey Suits. Whoever thought that these shadowy figures had gone away were sadly mistaken....they are still there.

So, shortly after the May 2015 election, there will be a vacancy at the Top Table, and Boris is setting himself up for it. I am just waiting to see which obliging Tory is going do the decent thing, and fall on his ( or her ) sword, thus letting Boris in by the side door.

So, TTT, if Clegg had done a deal with Labour in 2010, would you have said Gordon Brown "won an election"? I ask because that is the only reason Cameron is in No 10. He could have gone it alone, of course, but do you seriously imagine he'd still be in No 10 had he done so?

No because he came second. It's a bit basic really QM. If the Lib and Lab had done a deal then it would be true to say that neither of them won. Comming first in an election means winning, surely! Even if no deal was done Cameron would have been invited to form a minority governrment that no doubt would have collapsed pretty quickly but he still would have been PM having won a general election. Gawd if we ever go for PR as many want then by your logic no one would ever win again.

TTT, to "win" a British general election it is not enough just to get more seats than ANY other party, you have to get more seats than ALL the other parties COMBINED. That is something Cameron manifestly failed to do in 2010 and consequently he - equally manifestly - failed to "win".
I already mentioned the minority government possibility in my earlier post. Had he gone for that, given the backbenchers he has, he'd have been lucky to spend Christmas 2010 in Downing Street, never mind still be there now!
