Looking at the film, it appears that the policeman reacted instantly and in temper by tazering the individual.
As I understand it, that is not the purpose for which tazers are issued - they are to prevent personal violence against the officer and / or members of the public.
This was hardly the case here - unpleasant behaviour certainly, and technically an assault on the officer which could have been proved and dealt with.
But use of a tazer is clearly not appropriate, and does, as I have said, appear to be ain instant reaction without thought, and that is not what any police officer should be doing.

From section 5, ACPO, taser use regs.
The term ‘use of the Taser’ will include any of the following actions carried out in an operational setting:
1. Drawing of a Taser in circumstances where any person perceives the action as a use of force.
2. Sparking of the Taser commonly known as “arcing”.
3. Aiming of the Taser or placing the laser sight red dot onto a subject.
4. Firing of a Taser so that the barbs are discharged at a subject.
5. Application and Discharge of a Taser in “drive stun mode” to a subject.

/// if the bloke had died which could have happened, what charges would have been brought against the officer. ///
Then that would have been a completly different matter, I wonfder why this id=s still being debated, the officer was cleared of any wrong doing by a jury of six men and six women.
/// It took the jury of six men and six women just more than an hour to acquit unanimously PC Birch. ///
If this had been some others that had been cleared and some ABers said that they should be 'hung out to dry' the usual crew would be shouting out "he has been cleared, so nothing to answer for", why the difference here?
The killers of PC Blakelock spring immediately to mind.
