/// With a strict set of criteria, initially drawn up by Richard III in 1434, applicants must be of 'eminence or good standing in national or local life' to get one. ///

/// Honours from the crown, military commissions, university degrees and professional qualifications are taken into account. Those who are descended from awardees automatically qualify. ///

Wait a minute though isn't this all a little discriminatory? Wait for the first 'ordinary' gay couple to be turned down from applying for one.

//. It costs £5,250 to design a coat of arms for a man; £3,750 for a woman.//

I'm surprised the EU has not got something to say about that pricing structure given insurance and pensions have to be equal despite statistical evidence!

Yes by the lack of response it looks as if they are all sleeping soundly.
/Wait a minute though isn't this all a little discriminatory? Wait for the first 'ordinary' gay couple to be turned down from applying for one. /

well they'll be turned down for being 'ordinary' not for being gay

which is the whole point
So, some people can now do what other people have been able to do for some considerable time. Sounds like progress to me.
It's ridiculously old-fashioned.
Rampant nonsense
I agree with Pixie.

No you have it wrong, some people can now do what 'SOME' other people have been able to do for some considerable time.

And one has still to qualify before one becomes a member of 'SOME' of these other people.
Are you upset because you are not part of the 'some'
Or because 'Some' gays are now part of the 'Some'?
-- answer removed --
so women are now equal to men? How is this a problem?
Oh Dear, am I the only one to realise Richard III reigned 1483-1485, - you a horse a horse my kingdom for a horse - so er would have been around 5 when he drew up the criteria.

OK the 3 is a literal for 8 -

I am not sure if gays were barred previously
hence their liberation is obviously being taken - quietly
