''FIFA has moved quickly to clarify Blatter's comments, claiming the 78-year-old was merely stated it was impractical to organise a summer World Cup in Qatar due to the searing heat''.
''The time of year that the tournament will take place has yet to be formally decided but Blatter added that there was a high probability that the tournament would take place during the winter.''
I cannot see it being cancelled, but in hindsight FIFA have made a big mistake in awarding Qatar the WC.
The USA, Australia, South Korea and Japan, were all better candidates to host the Tournament.

//What will happen to League matches if the tournament occurs in winter? //
currently less than one third of premiership players would be eligible for England call-up. notwithstanding the Qatar tournament is 8 years away, I wouldn't expect the proportion to change. The premier league will hardly notice.

Qatar shouldn't have got it but now that it has I think it might not be so bad. There wil be a winter break for the PL and a Christmas World Cup means a welcome antidote to the usual Noel nonsense. And Qatar being so small means at łeast it will be easier for visiting fans to get to different games.
