BNP leader Nick Griffin says he has lost his seat in the European Parliament, blaming the rise of UKIP as the protest party of choice. But he says Nigel Farage's party is not anti-immigration, adding it is "anti-working class and going nowhere".

Watching the BBc's live programme. Right now David Dimbleby is asking William Hague why people are turning from the Conservatives to UKIP "in droves". But I'm not sure the figures are really showing that. Conservative support is dropping to be sure but I think given that they're the party in Government that was probably to be expected anyway so the only about 3.5-point drop isn't too bad, really.
The parties that are taking the biggest hits are LibDem and the BNP (as well as other minor parties that seem to have their vote slashed (e.g. NO2EU has lost something like 80% of their support!). So it looks to me that UKIP is picking up voters from two main sources: those people who were going to cast a protest vote anyway but now have decided that UKIP offers a genuine protest vote that could be listened to; and voters disillusioned with the LibDems (who were arguably the protest party of choice before 2010 themselves!).
I don't think that the Conservative Party is coming out of this election too badly, anyway.

Even Nick Robinson says that 12 months ago the talk of a UKIP MP was laughable. Now there would be a possibility of 3,4 or even 5 if an election took place tomorrow.

nevertheless Farage has changed the game. and he is to be applauded for that.

I agree. Like, love or loathe him he has to be lauded for something I've not seen in many a year i.e. getting people re-engaged in politics.
Furthermore, he appears to have 4 attributes the other leaders dont:
Honesty
Integrity
Personality
Charisma

Yes, Farage might end up doing British politics a service but not necessarily in the way he would have wanted! It's about how the main parties react more than what he does. On the other hand the MEPs we're sending to Europe mightn't necessarily be quite so hard-working, it's been suggested. Not that I'd noticed any of that previously.
