Hasn't Gove's bizarre obsession with 'Parent Power' made this situation worse.

Most people with any sense over the past 20 years could foresee that the most motivated 'Parents Groups' would be the various Fairytale Believers.

The delusion of 'choice' in education is one of the most catastrophic policies for both the most recent administrations.

I do believe you have a point there Zeuhl. Without doubt it should be more regulated, but I would also hate to remove 'parent power' totally.

Unless you believe in the Nanny state, ie the State knows better then well regulated free schools have to be a good thing.

It would be quite simple to state they can have no religious links at all - of any faith.

My personal view was that i was passionately interested in the local schools when my kids were attending.

Now they're not I really don't care.

Parents who have a commitment beyond that remind me of that saying about anyone who thinks they should be President shouldn't be let near the job.

The only 'choice' most parents want is a local school with high standards; too bad if your local is some sort of 'Academy' specialising in The Arts or Sport if your kid wants to specialise in science - or vice versa.

In some areas, the local school is good, but Sikh. I have nothing against the Sikhs but in 2014 that is just bonkers.

As you say, firm regulation on what should and should not be done/taught in the school, and not subsidised at the expense of the state schools.

Because if we warn about islamification we are labelled racist homophobes. The problem is we have a prevailing Chamberlainism and we won't wake up until it's too late. When they start using our own laws to change the law it'll be too late.

Schools are the traditional places for religion to start brainwashing the next generation. As I've said before all religion should be illegal in all schools.

"The GovernmentS of the day"? There only ever IS one government of the day, YMB, and guess which it was in 1994. The Labour government from 1997 may very well never even have heard of the problem or perhaps they imagined their predecessors had sorted it out.

its not to late to sort this out. Start by sacking the governors, especially the one who was instrumental in getting rid of any number of heads in schools, and any teacher who remonstrated with him.
