We are going to Europe on Friday &will be travelling through Belgium, Germany & Switzerland. Where is the cheapest country to buy cigarettes please or are they just as cheap at the Eurotunnel terminal when we are coming back. Thank you.

Adinkerke in Belgium is the cheapest place to buy cigarettes. About a third of the price here in UK.

But be aware France customs sometimes disregard the amounts you can bring back. They have been known to confiscate the vehicles of English travellers with tobacco from Belgium. They totally disregard the laws on allowances tsb at are allowed to be brought over too England.

thought you could bring as much as you like from EEC countries for personal use. And those limits only applied to non-EEC countries. I could swear I've seen programmes where customs officers have followed vans full of booze and tobacco because they suspected they were being 'sold on'.
And I've definitely seen customs officers saying that people gave themselves away by, for instance, having no cigarette butts in their car's ashtray or hundreds of pouches of tobacco but no papers

About a year or so ago they changed the rules to only 800 for personal use within the EU. Out of that it's still 200.

Adinkirke is a very strange town/village. Nearly every shop is a tobacconist. Hundreds of them. All have to charge the same price as it is regulated in Belgium. The only difference is the type or amount of freebies they give you.
This ranges from cigarette lighters, papers, filters, sweets or chocolates.
It does get a bit confusing where to go.

prudie, officially there is no limit.

however, there is a quantity beyond which you would open yourself to the Spanish Inquisition. for spirits, the figure is 10litres; for cigarettes, the figure is 800. if you have more than the quoted figure, and if the customs guys don't believe your story, goods can be seized.

if you've been to Andorra, quite often there will only be a cursory check of your car at the border. the full search is then sprung on you an hour down the road. :-0
