yes, yes, I know Lennon sang it. But that's irrelevant, just as nobody needs to know who Hamlet (or even Shakespeare) was to know that "To be or not to be" is a quotation. The headline is quoting a well-known phrase; it's not calling Lennon in support of protesting or not protesting.
(Given that the song's only comment on the effect of protesting is "you better free your mind instead", I'm not sure Lennon's endorsement would be much help anyway.)
