Kate & Williams Residence Refurb £4 Million
61 Answers
I have just read in yesterday's newspaper that we the Tax payer will be paying for the refurbishment for Will and Kate's home £4 Million, this is outrageous, there are people being thrown out of Social Housing because of the bedroom tax the same people are having to go to food banks so as to eat and we are paying (probably not the only thing) Millions of pounds for work to be done, I bet that unemployed tradesmen and women do not even get a look in I realise that this is just one of many instances of us and them which to be honest I never take much notice of but in this instance it really shook me

It's a *** Palace for God's sake.......do you think that Bert the builder from Atterclife is going to be employed?
Remember Grandpa, in Only Fools and Horses and the chandeliers?
This is a Monarchy in which we live......some people like it......some people don't, but for Pete's sake don't quibble over £4million.
Yes! yes! food banks, poor people...etc etc....things haven't changed for them in the last 50 years.

Baldric, I don't think anyone's disputing that they're a lovely, young family nor that they should have somewhere nice to live! The question is why should their *private* residence be refurbished at the taxpayer's expense, especially when they could so easily afford to pay for it themselves.
As for the nonsensical argument about tourism, do you honestly imagine that tourists base their decision on whether to visit Britain according to who foots the bill for the Royal family's private residences? "Kate & Wills have to pay for their own painting and decorating? That's outrageous! Let's go to Disneyland instead."

Baldric they can live where ever they please buy it maintain it ,do all the things that we all do just do not expect someone else to pay for it ,I bet he never buys a round.

I'm a republican (of the 'line them all up and shoot them' type!) so you'd hardly expect me to defending members of the (so-called) Royal family but given that Kensington Palace is a scheduled ancient monument, that the living areas haven't been refurbished for over half a century, that there's currently no running water and Kate & William are paying for all the internal furnishings anyway, I'm rather pleased to see a building that's part of out heritage (and open to the public) being restored to good order:
