Exactly Gromit, which is why you have to question the mindset of those who kidnapped and murdered them.
They know there'll be reprisals in bucketloads.
Operation Cast Lead 5 years ago resulted in 1,500 Palestinian dead. That leaves a lot of fathers, sons, brothers seeking to avenge those killings. The mindset is utter contempt for Isrealis because the Israelis have utter contempt for them.
Apparently the IDF have already dispatched half a dozen in retaliation and they probably haven't even started. A deadly cycle unfortunately.
As noted, retribution is going to be massive so what have Hamas got to gain by abducting three teenagers and simply killing them and hiding the bodies under rocks? Surely they are worth more alive?
Non military murders happen in the most worn-torn parts of the world but it would seem the Israelis setting in motion their default response before they know how these kids died which can only mean more horror for the Palestinians and more recruits for Hamas
/// Israel's Shin Bet security service earlier said the main suspects in the case were two men named Marwan Qawasmeh and Amer Abu Aisheh and that they were "Hamas operatives". ///
There is much we are not being told, why does Israel's security service suspect these two men in particular?
Three innocent civilian teenagers are murdered, it could be anyone.
2007 - Schism starts between Hamas (baddies) and Fatah (goodies) after Hamas wins the Palestinian elections.
2010-2014 - Israel hold Peace talks with Fatah, which are fruitless.
Feb 2014 - Hamas and Fatah announced they are reconciled.
April 2014 - Israel suspenders peace talks.
June 2014 - Israel warns that International community to not recognise the new authority.
June 2014 - Teens Kidnapped. Netanyahu blames Hamas
July 2014 - Israeli jets bombard Gaza.
------
The kidnappings came at a very fortuitous time for the Israelis. They wanted to punish the Palestinians for their reconciliation. The kidnappings came at a bad time for the Palestinians who wanted to demonstrate to the world that the ne authority was working.
