world history book

could anyone please help me. i am looking for a book that explains world events in context. my history is pretty poor and although i know about individual events, i have no idea what was happening in other parts of the world at the same time. what was happening in europe when cleopatra was around? what was going on in china in the times of the bible? i appreciate it would be a big book but any suggerstions??

Try DK Publishing's Timelines of World History, price when we bought it �30, it's a great book and just what you're looking for, I think.   www.dk.com.

I've just looked on the DK website and can't find Timelines of World History, but there is World History Atlas of the World, which seems to be the same sort of book.  However, you could probably come across either of the above secondhand or from a book club which sells them cheaper.  Hope you find what you want.

'Cassell's Chronology of World History' isn't too bad either.
