Isn't it time that these illegals instead of being rescued and taken to England so that they can then claim asylum, were taken back to France from where they came.

/// It is understood they were claiming asylum and were due to be taken to a deportation centre pending assessment of their claim. ///

/// Last Saturday eight Afghan immigrants had to be rescued around five miles off the port of Dover in the Channel when their RIB's motor broke down after running out of fuel. ///

It is a good job that we have the Daily Mail to report on such things, or we would not know who is coming illegally to this country.

We need the government to address this issue of abuse of our borders. Loads of things tried but surely we need to make life so unpleasant for illegal immigrants that they dont want to come here any more. We do though seem to pussy-foot around with them and weigh up this right and that right. What about the rights of citizens living here lawfully who are expected to...

Sailing Etiquette

Help: One of the most important rules of etiquette is always helping
other boaters in distress. Don’t put yourself in danger, but it is your
responsibility to aid another in need.

I can't read link as I'm using mobile but if they were 5 miles from Dover wouldn't this be classed as British water? If they can send them back to France then they should be able to send anyone who comes in lorries etc back. The thing is I think if sending back to France or any other country that country would not let them in without passport. Same as if someone somehow got on a plane to uk our border agency wouldn't let them in
technically it's illegal anyway, they must apply in the first safe country, now France has it's problems but I think it can be considered safe!
makes me laugh, of all the silly EU rules we obey without question, the one that actually helps us we ignore!
//due to be taken to a deportation centre pending assessment of their claim.//

that's not what usually happens to successful incomers - generally they're patted on the head, given a train ticket to east Croydon and told to report here:-

So a passenger liner can travel to just outside our waters then lower the life boats and they can then just row into our waters by the boat load, and we are forced to let them in?

Wait till that catches on.

you don't really get passenger liners any more, though. Just cruise liners full of rich passengers happy to go back home.

/// AOG, that is extreme and hardly likely to happen! ///

You really think so?

When it comes to getting into the land of 'milk and honey' there are no 'extremes'.
Do the rules of the sea include breaking asylum law by ignoring everywhere except here.
They've been rescued, they're safe, now back to la belle France to be processed.
We need to develop a version of the Gallic shrug ourselves.

I used the term 'passenger liner' loosely, it could well be a cargo ship, with a cargo of illegals.
"Same as if someone somehow got on a plane to uk our border agency wouldn't let them in "

You haven't quite got the hang of this, zoe. When somebody arrives at a major airport, having managed to get on to an aircraft bound for the UK with the intention of claiming asylum or settling here illegally, they chuck their papers away (usually on the aircraft but sometimes after they have disembarked) and arrive at immigration control "sans papiers". Immigration officials may refuse to grant them entry but cannot "send them back" because they have no idea where they came from. They usually end up claiming asylum, being released pending their hearing (as mushroom says, usually with a map and a train ticket to get to Lunar House) and, surprisingly, disappear off the face of the earth.

Immigration control should be placed at individual gates so that anyone arriving in such a way can be returned to the country they last left before arriving in the UK. It would require more immigration officials and my suggestion is that we retrain some members of HM forces who have been farting around getting their backsides blown off in Afghanistan for the last decade or so.
cargo (or cruise) ships will generally be stopping here; that's the time to watch for illegals hopping off.

The land of milk and honey,
Where everyone's got billions.
We own a private swimming pool.
And keep away the minions.
They will try to get in anywhere by fair means or foul. The boatloads that arrive in Lampedusa, Italy are horrendous, several boats have sunk losing 100's of lives. I have no idea how the countries targetted by these asylum seekers can deal with the numbers. In West Yorkshire we have a 33yr old bi-sexual Jamaican who has gained friends here and who are demonstrating for his right to stay here. This is about the fourth one pleading insanity, fear of fgm or death for being something other than normal etc. At least in this case the judge has decreed this one goes home. He will probably fiight the deportation order which gives him another couple of years here on the dole.

people will try anything to get into the Yorks cricket team.

I am not on about ships actually docking, I refer to them dropping their load off just outside our waters, and we do not have enough patrol boats to cover all our waters, 24/7.
