There will be women who have chosen to have children by sperm donation, so the dad/partner thing would not be relevant there.
I think the problem is that some think that there's a 'one size fits all' method of writing pamphlets and documentation. That may have been true 70 years ago, but as many of us now know, that's not necessarily the case in 2014.
