That's almost certainly wrong as well. While Ukraine is blaming pro-Russian rebels (who operate independently of Russian government control) for bringing the plane down, some Russian sources are blaming Ukrainian forces and it's not even certain that anyone fired on it at all.
With accuracy like that, Tristen, you should apply for a job with the Daily Mail!
August 28th, 2014: London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds and Glasgow lie in ruins. Moscow no longer exists, and much of Western Russia is under a cloud of radiation.
In his bunker, David Cameron is told that it's just been realised that the plan was, after all, not American but Malaysian, and wasn't shut down by Russians. "Oh... so those 12 million-odd people died for no reason then." "Yes sir." "Oh well, so I got my facts wrong... they can just get over it."
It might have been an accident, but if it was shot down there is only one candidate: Russian separatist fighters in Eastern Ukraine, or possibly even in Russia, because there's pretty conclusive evidence now that a couple of Ukrainian transport planes were shot down from across the border in Russia.
For one thing, there are no airborne targets for the Ukrainian military to shoot at. The only planes in the combat zone are Ukrainian ones.
And of course the plane was flying from Western Ukraine, so it would be bizarre in the extreme for Ukrainian forces to have mistaken an aircraft coming from that direction as some sort of aerial attack from the east
Additionally, although the terrorists in E Ukraine have the hardware they don't necessarily have the capability to use them accurately. For example they've got tanks they don't know how to drive (!)
As for WW3, I doubt that, but if this proves not to have been an accident then it will be a very grave and tragic reason why the world needs to sit up and take note of the murderous regime of Vladimir Putin.
This is a man who engineered a war by cynically murdering hundreds of his fellow Russian citizens in terrorist bomb attacks blamed on Chechens
And when his security services spilled the beans he pursued one of them to his death in London in a botched assassination using a highly radioactive poison which could have threatened the lives of British people in London.
And who has been the sole instigator of the conflict now raging in Eastern Ukraine. Arguably he is also largely responsible for way the Syrian War was proceeded.
Or, as it say, maybe it was an accident. But the fact the terrorists boasted of hitting a Ukrainian plane before they realised that they'd really done does not sound good.
We don't know yet.
"unless they thought it was a russian plane as it was heading into russian airspace and they did it "
Why would they shoot down a plane coming from their own country?
It's more likely to be a Russian plane if it's coming FROM Russia. But then again, why would they want to shoot at it anyway?
Given that the plane was flying at such a high altitude it seems unlikely that the terrorists would have shot it by mistake either.
So my money is on it being an accident.
Nonetheless I hope Vlad has some brown underwear handy ...
Flight recorders have been found at the crash site, Konstantin Knyrik, a spokesman for the pro-Russian rebels, has told Interfax news agency. Earlier reports quoted rebels as saying they intended to send the flight recorders to Moscow for checking.
