you can't be partly pro-equality any more than you can be partly pregnant. Being in favour of equality except for gays just doesn't make logic.

Voting against one item (that happens to be your pet) does not make you anti equality.
I would vote for homosexual partnerships but not marriage (as you are already aware of sp ) many people row the same boat - can see nothing wrong with that.

Simples, Because the lunatics who run this country are at it again
But that isn't anti equality. It is gay marriage that is the oxymoron given that the definition of marriage is a union between a man and a woman. And gay individuals have an equal right to enter into such a union, no one is stopping them.

Neither does being in favour and expecting them to procreate if that is the yardstick being used for. equality jno.
I doubt that's the yardstick; straights aren't expected to procreate, though they can if they wish. So can gays.
// Is this Britain's best oxymoron? //

I quite like 'Modern' History.

Who needs a Maths degree to be Chancellor, when you have a 2:1 in Modern History. :-/
erm Nicky might say:

some equalities are more equal than others....

and she wouldnt even have made that one up !
I think modern starts with approximately the Tudors but is presumably still going. Modern art started about 100 years ago but presumably that isn't modern any more because we've now got postmodernists everywhere. Perhaps when HM the Queen dies we will move into a new Carlistic era.
HOw can the equalities minister be unequal when it comes to equalities ?

yeah quite - the answer by the way is Godel's 2nd incompleteness theorem

and here it is by Boolos in words of one syllable:

dear reader please try it and see.....
When historians say "modern", they usually mean the era starting in the mid-to-late C18 - I.e the beginning of the industrial revolution and/or Americand and French revolutions.
/// I totally support civil partnerships and that same-sex relationships are recognised in law. But marriage, to me, is between a man and a woman. ///

She is not against gays per-Se, she just believes 'Marriage' is between a man and a woman.

Why should a person be ostracised for stating that she doesn't agree with same sex marriages? There must be many who hold the same feelings but are afraid to admit it in these days when one is expected to toe the PC line.
On principle a gay couple and a straight couple aren’t equal and never can be equal because they are different and always will be – just as a man and a women are different and therefore, can never be equal. That is not to say one is less than the other – just different.

It depends Kromovaracan. Some historians say that the modern period started in the 1500s!

"Why should a person be ostracised for stating that she doesn't agree with same sex marriages? There must be many who hold the same feelings but are afraid to admit it in these days when one is expected to toe the PC line." That is correct but how many folk with those feelings are responsible for equality as a member of the UK Government?
...straights aren't expected to procreate, though they can if they wish. So can gays."

Er... not without the (considerable) assistance of someone of the opposite gender, they can't

I haven't accused her of being 'against gays'.

Im asking how an Equalities Minister can hold a post in which she is expected to hold up the Government's policy of equality for all.

Gay people can have kids.

It's been going on for centuries.

I believe you are conflating the phrase 'the same' with 'equal'.

Men and women are not the same, but they *are* equal.
