I'm a big fan of Davies, as I think he does an intelligent job on the Today Program, but I am nots sure if he is tough enough to replace Paxo. Personally I would have liked to see Eddie Mair front Newsnight. Mair has proven that he cab be very tough when I needs to be, as well as urbane. Here he is calling Boris a "nasty piece of work" ::::

Yes,Evan is very good but maybe he pitched well for the job?! I always thought he looked like a meerkat!

I'm a bit of a fan of Evan (I've read most of his published books - makes modern history interesting to me...at last), but I have never seen him as a heavyweight political interviewer. I find him more interesting in a kind of David Attenborough way - I would have thought (health permitting) that Andrew Marr would have been a better choice...or perhaps Kirsty Wark?
Paxo was a one-off and would be almost impossible to replace.
That said, his replacement could grow into the role and he doesn't hold back on the tough questions on his radio programme.
The only other person who could have replaced Paxo in a proper rotweiler role would be the fair haired guy who does the BBC Hard Talk programmes, whose name escapes me at the moment.
I agree , Evan Davies is too nice to be tough with these politicians etc

I like meerkats...they are awfully cute !
Stephen Sackur, that's the chap. Looks like Max Headrooom.
I'm just waiting for the "gay mafia" comments!
Served his apprenticeship well! Emily Maitliss is brainy but I wish she would sit properly, legs everywhere!!
The thing about Paxman is that he was tough with his interviewees ( is that a word ) without having to put much effort into it ( if you see what i mean )

Hasn't Eddie got any mates on here today ?
I will miss on the Today programme. He makes my morning.
I agree Mikey - I like Evan a lot but Eddie Mair was my choice
We need to get Eddie on TV - he's great on PM but he deserves a wider audience

Lets start a petition ric.ror !
Yes, I agree. He's always just looked like a meerkat to me. Anyway, time will tell if he's the right person for the job.
What about Emily, Sarah, Mishal and, overseeing all, Kirsty
Only 999,998 to get then! Fair point Mikey, havent heard a lot of Mair but when I have hes very competent but just a tad dour perhaps?
Hmmm...John Humphrys anyone?
Right here , sp .

I'll always remember that hatchet job he did on that former BBC DG
Mikey, I agree that Eddie Mair would be ideal, and I wonder if he has been overlooked because of the impending referendum in September.

Michael Norman? Paxo can do weather 'Is it going to rain? Did you say it was going to rain? Did you say? Did you? Well, did you?
