Yesterday apparently, complications of heart surgery.

Shame......nice guy. Mr &Mrs sqad met him and his wife (can't remember her name) on Concorde during a flight to Miami. He was a pilot also and was invited into the cockpit.

Early death eh?

Very sad...i liked him when he was on one of Noel Edmonds' shows...can'r remember which one now but they were very funny together.

As a young soldier in the 80's Radio 1 DJ's were invariably part of service life, as that was invariably what we always listened to.
For some inexplicable reason whilst serving in N. Ireland I always recall Mike Smith playing Spandau Ballet's 'True' twice on his morning show because he liked it so much.

Funny how some minor events stick in your mind.

As I said, always seemed a nice fella, sadly taken so young.

I recall he was in a helicopter crash and took a long time to recuperate.

Didn't he have a major fall out with Noel Edmonds?
Also he was part of the Edmonds hosted, ill fated 'The Late Late Breakfast Show', in which Michael Lush was killed. :(

I remember the helicopter crash. Both he and Sarah Greene were badly injured.
