Perhaps Germany could be a better choice of residence for all the economic refugees who are camping in Calais just waiting to get into England.

That is unless Labour get in power at the 2015 elections, then who knows what extra lucrative benefits they will bestow on their potential future voters?

The concept of free or cheap holidays for the poor or disadvantaged is not a new one. It has existed in France since before WW2 and still operates today through a network of "Colonies de Vacances"
There's a bloke living opposite me who has been on holiday for 7 years I know of ! And he is only in his early 30's !

And also in the late Communist East Germany it seems.

/// a suggestion reminiscent of the state-organised holidays under the communist regime in the former East Germany. ///
is this another con by the German politicians, similar to that shown on James May car programme last night.
Where ever you go in Europe you do seem to meet quite a lot of German tourists. I expect its their facility with foreign languages that allows them to wander at will. Most of them can speak French, Dutch, Danish, Norwegian, Polish, etc,etc...well they learnt them in the War you see.
Even the Labour Party understand that people are pis...ed off about this. It's the auto response to UKIP. It's also an understanding that they when they were in power, when in government, they failed to do something about the problem.
Scooping...interesting reply but I am unsure exactly what the British Labour Party has to do with Germany giving its benefit claimants free holiday, or are I missing something here ?

All of them elderly tourists then?

It must be a Leftie thing.
It was meant as a light-hearted remark, which I first heard Bob Monkhouse use in Cabaret nearly 40 years ago. One of the funniest men that I have every paid to see in my opinion.
I agree. Bob Monkhouse is sorely missed. What a fantastic memory he had!
Mikey4444: Coz we tried it, Germany is now trying it, Denmark, Sweden and others have tried it. My question simply was if it worked. If it does, fine. If it doesn't we should not do it again. Is that hard to understand?
AOG's post makes reference to Labour, which is probably why he posted it in the first place, and you have also tried to make an anti-Labour issue out of this. The link that AOG used makes no such connection, that is why I was querying your stance.

If you want to make anti-Labour points, than that is OK, and its perfectly acceptable to do so. But try to make them relevant to the post in question next time !
