Apparently Richard III liked the sauce!

From link:

analysis of the king's bones and teeth showed his drinking habits changed significantly around the time he became king in 1483.

It concluded during the last three years of his life he consumed about a bottle of wine a day.

Well, he was a Yorkshireman.
I think most people drank small beer then (safer than water), but I guess you'd get tired of it. He also needed wine to hand to drown relatives in.

Did anyone watch the C4 programme about the new evidence? Utterly fascinating insight and the young lad who was almost the body double of Richard certainly went through the rigours.
Just one bottle per day? To my mind that is tantamount to total abstinence!

Did anyone watch it? Surely not just Elina and I?
I found it fascinating ChillD! Brilliant how they were able to bring history to life looking at his diet ... to the problems 'Richard' had being fitted with a suit of armour ... & breathing problems related to his curved spine.

Wasn't it just, Elina? As was said, the images and perceptions of Richard being a weak and feeble man were most certainly laid to rest as he fought like a lion in battle.
Couldn't agree more Zacsmaster - speaking as a Yorkshirewoman who wants him home, by the way. (But that's another thread.)
I want to find out more about him now! I'm just looking on my kindle for books about him. There's 29 pages to choose from!

I love history and it's fascinating what they can tell us about their lives by modern day analysis. Xrays of the Egyptian mummies was interesting. I missed the programme about Richard III. Only the poor drank water, it was mostly beer or wine or fruit drinks infused with herbs to disguise the taste of the dirty water. Also the monks were famed for their winemaking.
