If the world literally united and sent troops from every country with a military surely these could be stopped? Even the Islamic countries, let's see how much they believe how out of control and wrong I.S are or do they just say they're in the wrong. All words and no action?

You are both right (give or take that the Sauds (it's a family firm, after all) funding IS is news to me and a tad speculative, other than Bin Laden was from that country, so it fits the pattern).

By "invested in", I think Scooping was referring to their fleets of F16s, Challenger tanks and other hardware. "Bought" would have been a more straightforward choice of phrase.

We buy their oil products, they use our money to buy weapons from our arms manufacturers.

Anyone else remember the Westland affair, "deucers" and all that protocol stuff?
