This seems like a simple oversight.

But what is it with newspapers nowadays? Are they addicted to the word 'outrage' even where nobody is really outraged?

There will be no sheriff pics. just as I would not be able to find any real pictures of pirates wearing pyjamas. It is a cowboy design aimed at children. It is not a concentration camp design aimed at children.

So that's settled then, as the whole ensemble is decidedly more Dachau than Dodge.
Thanks for the confirmation.

/// Ah...the swastika - as a symbol, it's 3,000 years old - but symbols are what we make of them. They are all about association. ///

Ah yes, how some things that were perfectly acceptable a few years ago are now considered to be offensive.

Come to think about it, that would make a good subject for a thread, perhaps, but not on the news section maybe?

* WHAT WORD, PHRASE OR ITEM WERE PERFECTLY INNOCENT SOME YEARS AGO, BUT ARE NOW A NO, NO? *

But no, think about it, that just wouldn't work, all the examples would be censored.
Here's an interesting collection, from adults to babies and the word sheriff isn't on any of them.

.... and neither is the extra 'point' on the star.
Shame the designer didn't think to write 'Sheriff' on the badge then. I don’t think anyone who has visited Yad Vashem, or Auschwitz, or the Holocaust Museum in New York, or any of the other memorials around the world, would hesitate to associate that outfit with the holocaust.
naomi I admit it's faint but the word is there in gold.
Oh right.
I wonder whether it was an oversight when you consider how many people at Zara were likely to have been involved in the process. It would only take one individual to spot the resemblance or maybe they deemed it acceptable for marketting?

On the subject of the word 'outrage' it is similar to another phrase I read a lot ' outpouring of grief' which is rather exaggerated at times.
Sp...13.25...it sounds just like the 2010 UKIP Manifesto to me !

Did you see the manifesto from about four years ago?

Literally the funniest thing since 'Airplane'.
Naomi,

// .... and neither is the extra 'point' on the star. //

I just put "Sheriff badge' into Google, and very many of the results are 6 pointed stars. Sheriff badges are not exclusively 5 pointed. Again, I guess your memory of what a sheriff badge looks like is incorrect, just as your memory of what a concentration camp uniform is incorrect (if you think the pyjamas resemble a camp uniform).

Gromit, blue and white stripes topped with a big yellow star pinned to the chest conjure up images of the holocaust. Full stop. But perhaps you've never visited the museums. There's clearly a problem, otherwise the company wouldn't have removed the design.
The general appearance is too close for comfort despite any differences. It hardly matters how many points a sheriff's badge may have. The symbol is a yellow star. The company withdrew the product under a tide of opposition. End of.
A yellow star on a child's pyjama top marked sheriff to all intents & purposes is exactly that. If anybody wishes to see it as something else then that is their prerogative, it doesn't make them right though.
Correct Vulcan, but from a marketing aspect did the company not envisage a backlash? Did they just risk it?

What about the bags/swastika? These seem like own goals to me.
