This article promted me to think a bit more.

What if Salmond went the whole hog and created a tax haven. Scotland wold be laughing all the way to the bank and the rest of the UK would be crying in their Musellei.

Scotland cannot become a tax haven if it is to be a member of the EU. One or the other - not both.

And what money would Scotland use to run schools, hospitals, the old age pensions?

Tax havens only work in small areas where the local population are very wealthy and do not need any services provided for them by the state (because they can afford to pay privately for them).

Atalanta, depends on your definition of a tax haven but as Luxembourg is part of the EU and is considered a tax haven by the likes of Amazon I would suggest your statement is not entirely true. At present member nations set their own tax regime, the final solution of the Europe state ruled by Germany is not there yet.

Gromit. Population of Switzerland 8m, population of Scotland 5.2m. I would consider Swizerland to hold 'tax haveb' status and I know for a fact that not all of those 8m are not rich by any means whatsoever.

What money would Scotland use, well might I suggest oil revenues. By the time they had run out if the Scots played their cards right then they would have something else to fund the required State.

It does of course fall down a bit because Scotland is lefty. Surprised you didnt mention that one?

Scotland would be bankrupt after 12 months if they became independent. Free this, free that thousands of unproductive public sector workers. In fact come to think of it, let's hope they do go their own way. Us English wont have to subsidies them anymore.

Perhaps an independent Scotland will build the much-vaunted wave turbine across the Pentland Firth and put a roadway over the top of it, thereby providing more than sufficient electricity for the entire country as well as connecting Orkney's Mainland to the Scottish mainland.

Capital idea..
If the Yes vote wins, Scotland are still retaining Queen Elizabeth as 'Head of State' and most of her crown colonies are tax havens.

The Scots could then be part of the duplicitous financial sector of London and join that band of elite that hide theft, money laundering and blood money.

I don't think so, we could easily drive up to Scotland with a suitcase full of dosh and stash it out of reach of the IR.
