Cholesterol Tests.

Do you all get your cholesterol tested regularly? My last result was 5.2. she said she had a machine that could give readings for good and bad cholesterol. . She said i had very good levels of good cholesterol and they like the bad cholesterol to be four or under and mine was 2.2.. my good cholesterol reading was 3 and my bad cholesterol reading was 2.2 making a reading of 5.2 altogether..

I have only ever had one cholesterol test, over 20yrs ago. I've never felt the inclination to have another one and can think of no reason to bother.

Hi, Gmum....I had a test a couple of years ago....don't know why....and my level was 5.8 I think....may have gone just over 6.

I came away with a prescription for statins which I did try.....my feet and legs swelled up and I got a windy tum....sod that I thought.....☺

We both have an annual fasting blood test, and have done for the last ten years, which happens to include cholesterol as well as kidney and liver function, thyroid, glucose, etc. etc.
For us it's because of various medications we're on, although himself takes statins too and has done for the last two years. Our surgery recommends having the blood test round our birthdays just so it makes it easier to remember every twelve months, so that's what we do.

Much to my wifes annoyance I am still giving good results and no tablets yet.

My wifes very careful on what she eats and is on statins. Me? I just hoover up food with little regard for cholesterol, still no tablets.

Yes, regularly, at the GP practice, because mine is relatively high - I go every 6 months. The standard everyone should be aiming for is 5 or lower.
