Boris is a real character, maybe if we had more like him it would encourage better turn outs on Polling days...

Obiter...I know that and you know that....but don't you think that John Redwood should have at least tried, even a little bit ? We don't like many Tories here although we grew quite fond of Peter Walker but Redwood was hated.
I take nothing back about the Tories...we have done with them in Wales as a governing force, and they have done the same in Scotland, whatever the vote is next week. They are a spent energy in the Celtic Fringes and it was a Labour victory that gave us that power. They may come back to infest England again in the future but it is highly unlikely that they could ever do the same here again in Wales. For that we must be grateful but remain vigilant.

Obiter...I am not nor ever likely to be Secretary of State for Wales, but Redwood was, and he made a complete fool of himself in the link I have provided. That is the difference. He should have done better.
But in the end it didn't really matter. His card was marked and he didn't last long. He plotted against Major and signed his death warrant into the bargain. An ignominious end, for a failed, minor politician and its this he shall be remembered for in history, not miming to the Welsh National Anthem, badly.

History lesson for Obiter.Patrick Gordon-Walker did indeed lose the seat of Smethwick in the 1964 election and was parachuted in to fight a by election in the safe seat of Leyton, which he lost. However,in the 1966 general Election,he won the seat of Leyton. He then served in Government as Minister without Portfolio then as Secretary of state for Education. He went to the Lords in 1974.
Dear, oh dear! I thought this was supposed to be about Boris Johnson. Does no one agree with my post at 0753 on Saturday? Then I pointed out that the man had not the remotest concept of what the words 'vow' and 'promise' mean. Hardly a ringing endorsement of someone who will become an MP and may become a Prime Minister, is it?
ZM, of course, plain 'lying' is a stock-in-trade of politicians in general. However, prefacing their advance claims with phrases such as 'a solemn vow' when making promises isn't really that commomn, even among them!
He started by breaking his marriage vows to individual women...twice...went on to break his promise to an entire city and now you no doubt feel he has every right to up his game should he decide to break these to a whole nation.
I wasn't suggesting his duplicity was headline news, just pointing out what value should be placed on his higher-level promises BEFORE he is in a position to make them.
