Has anyone here in AB actually seen one? I haven't because I wouldn't want to see such ghastly acts or hear the 'justification' spewed out before it happened.

I've never seen one. I know that they exist, and that's all I need to know about them.
Does my question really betray a morbid fascination? I wouldn't have thought so. These videos are pieces of political theatre in the Grand Guignol style. I don't want to see, or hear, their message

And yet follows a religion that has the main image of crucifixion at its very heart. Whilst not a particularly gruesome form of death, how would people today react if such a form of execution were to become suddenly de rigeur with fanatics?
Do Catholics advocate crucifixion?
membership of weird religions !

Aren't they all weird, with tales of re-incarnation and fables of the supernatural, not to mention breaking every rule of the laws of physics and geology?

It is. Attend a Mass and you couldn't be other than transfixed at the moment of Consecration when a wafer of bread is transubstantiated into the body of Christ.
so does cannibalism trump decapitation? .....joke.....
Oh God. I am mixing with heretics here. I'll never be able to face a full bodied Rioja again.

Lacryma Christi, the tears of Christ, is an Italian wine. Drink your Rioja with gusto, Retrocop. The church is intensely relaxed about ritualistic, but symbolic, cannibalism.
the most recent beheading videos are interesting because of the way the video doesnt actually show any throat cutting - why is that? There is something very fishy about the way they are presented and staged.
Without seeing a religious beheading and how its carried out how would you ever see the difference?
Chilld, //how would people today react if such a form of execution [crucifixion] were to become suddenly de rigeur with fanatics?//

ISIS is quite partial to it as a form of execution, but I think they prefer lopping heads off.
crucifixion - people can get quite cross about that as a means of execution
I saw the first video, but I believe all the videos do not show the actual beheading.

The IS man makes a speech with the hostage kneeling. They are both facing the camera and the IS man has a knife about 9 inches long. After the speech he puts the knife to his captives throat from behind and the picture goes black. Next we see a still photo of the detatched head on the horizontal body of the hostage.

The reason for the freeze frame and still photo are unclear. Would a short knife be able to cut through the neck bone?
//the most recent beheading videos are interesting because of the way the video doesnt actually show any throat cutting//

Yes they do!!

No knife needs to through a neck bone! the spine and neck has joints!!
Are you sure rattner, I thought none of the videos showed the actual killing.

News reports are often written in curious language, such as:

// The ISIL terrorists have released a video purportedly showing the decapitation of British hostage //

// A still image taken from a purported ISIL video of British captive David Haines before he is beheaded. //

http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=ISIL+beheading+videos&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&;hl=en&client=safari

The official reports seem to have an element of doubt about the staging and authenticity of what is shown.
//Are you sure rattner, I thought none of the videos showed the actual killing.//

I am sure, it really depends where you find the video, the sight and sounds of the blood and the choking and gurgling will never leave me!! Clearly I will not be posting a link!
No ratter the last one doesnt. It even shows the knife sawing back and forward a few times on the neck but no blood. Watch a real beheading and trust me there is instant blood.
The british guy even looks like he tries to say something to the knife holder just before he starts.
I dont know if he died in the end but there is something odd going on with these recent videos.
Not sure what you saw Ratter, but it wasn't the beheading. I have now verified on many sites that the videos of the first two are how I described them.

// The actual act of murder is blacked out in both videos. All you see is the executioner drawing the knife back and forth a few times across the victim's throat, with no sign of visible blood, then the screen goes black. //
gromit, you see that actual process in the Nick Berg beheading. Tell you what guys, the standard anti British lefty has surprised me here, Troll poster scrivens has compared sawing off a head with a breadknife to a standard execution following due process and none of you, and I waited, none of you challenged this idiot. I am shocked. I hope this is not tacit agreement.
Why would anyone want to bear witness to such an appalling act of savagery?

It's bad enough knowing someone suffered a horrible death, his last moments filled with absolute terror, without having it indelibly etched into your brain.
