Salmond said: ‘The position that we are in now, that Scotland is in now is redolent of opportunity... I think the situation is redolent with opportunity and political progress for the country.’
Asked about personal responsibility and failures, Salmond said: “45% of the vote, 1.6m votes, is a remarkable political development”, but he felt that what he was doing was the most “assured” way to take responsibility.
He said the replacement new first minister should be in place by mid-November .
