Dave Lee Travis Verdict: Three-Month Suspended Sentence
Prosecution Miranda Moore QC first read an impact statement from the woman indecently assaulted by DLT in mid 90s...
Prosecution says victim not seeking compensation or legal costs...
Defence said that DLT and wife had to sell house to pay to defend himself...
Defence then addressed judge about possible starting points for sentence. "This single offence...does not cross custody threshold"...Defence said he thinks a "conditional discharge" would be most appropriate sentence. Not a fine.

I wonder if some of these cases shouldn't fall under the remit of 'Restorative Justice'? In that way, the accused could meet the accuser, acknowledge his/her offences and between them decided what would be a 'fair' outcome, rather than going down the route of lengthy, costly trials..... I know that there are a great many serious cases where a trial is the only...

trt - "I think some of you on here are in the same age bracket as DLT like myself, or older and can you honestly say you never touched a girl in a jokingly manner when you were young?"
Absolutely I have.
But never someone i did not know well enough to know me well enough to know that it was joking.
That's a very long way from intimately grabbing a total stranger who is left upset and feeling totally violated.

trt - I think a great many of them probably have which is why they are 'projecting' onto these cases involving celebrities.......if they acknowledge that the celebrities have, indeed, caused offence (criminal and otherwise), then they'll have to confront the idea that they are similarly guilty......and that never sits easily.
2sp - "I have no sympathy for DLT or anyone else who thinks it's OK to touch someone else in an unwelcome manner.
Let's hope others will learn that it's not acceptable to touch, harass or assault others, and that there are consequences to their actions."
This is the crux of the issue in my view.
Mr Travis likes to think of himself as a 'cuddly tactile person', which is fine.
What is not fine is to assme that your cuddly tactile persona is welcomed, enjoyed and appreciated by anyone with a vagina and a pulse who comes within arms length of you.
It appears that even now Mr Travis remains bewildered by the reactions to his behaviour, which is the hallmark of the utterly self-centered.
Fortunately, just because you think being 'cuddly' and 'tactile' excuses such behaviour - the law does not agree.

jackthehat; I don't know your age, I suspect I am much older than you are, and the event took place within a completely different social atmosphere, which is now being judge by the mores of today.
How can man loose so much for so little, when a gang of Pakistani pond-life walk free in the streets England, after grooming, drugging and serially raping under age girls is beyond me.

How incredibly offensive.

Khandro - I am........but it was wrong to do what DLT (and others) did all those years ago and it is still wrong.
It may be unsettling for you 'chaps from a different era' to get to grips with the fact that what you thought was a bit of entitled groping was actually something far more distressing for the recipient.
DLT has lost so much because he decided to contest the charges rather than admit that he had been a boorish serial groper...
