Not sure what is racist about this ! I am not normally a great fan of graffiti
but this seems to a witty pit-down of xenophobes, and isn't in any way racist.

Hardly a witty put-down of xenophobes. More a mockery of those who raise genuine concerns anyone should be asking about. All graffiti is vandalism anyway so it's no big loss.
The problem I have with this sort of thing is: When is it not graffiti?

Why should 'Banksy' be allowed to deface walls when others are not just because the right-on crowd think he is wonderful?

Personally I think it is in bad taste and open to incite trouble.

I think it's considered art more than graffiti and his artwork sells for big bucks.
/// the worrying thing is that the "authorities" always seem so keen to act when a nutter complains about something. ///

That is all dependant on what they complain about.

If someone had complained to the council that the wall near the Gents was in need of painting, do you think that they would have acted with such speed?
Pity he can't afford a canvas then.
nothing surprises me, an anti racists exhibit was shut down the other day for being racist! YCMIU!

So drawing on public walls is fine if it is art and sells for big bucks?

One rule for one ,another rule for the rest springs to mind.

I have no doubt that many graffiti artists consider their work art too.
No TTT, WAGTHIAHC.
He anonymity seems to be his appeal.

I don't think you can really compare Banksy with kids who spray their tags all over the place.
I'm not giving an opinion on whether it's right or wrong just that people are interested in him and his work whether it be on a wall or a canvas.

I just don't know how he does it without being spotted.
"more exotic bird"? get it right - it's a swallow.

Personally, I agree with the antigraffiti=ers - it isn't right to daub on walls, famous artist or not.

I don't think this is racist, I think it's ironic - you can't be racist unless you mention a race....
He'd be welcome to graffiti my wall :-)
indeed YMB!
If I tried really, really hard ...

And I had the sort of mind that needs to see racism in everything ...

Then I might interpret it that way.

Unfortunately, there are lots of people like that.

They are desperate to see racism. If you told them that ...

Chocolate brownies are racist, because "brownies" is offensive, or

Chocolate biscuits are racist because they imply that the white parts are having to support the brown parts, and it's insulting to the black community, or

The term "little black dress" is racist because it suggests that black things are small and insignificant ...

They would cry "YES, YES, YES !!!"

When people find "racism" in so many silly ways, we should stop spending so much time humouring them. It's time we just said ...

"Oh, just shut up, and p"ss off"
satirical comment. stupid idiots. very strong comment on his part. are church murals just graffiti? or works of art?
As we mentioned a couple of weeks ago in relation to the idiots who closed the Barbican exhibit - how exactly is anti-racist art supposed to work in the minds of these idiots?

These people are elected councillors. That is not a mandate for being moral guardians or entitle them to take offense on behalf of other people. Yet again we have a group of idiotic self-appointed "white knights" who appear to have no problem at all with censorship.

Well done, idiots.
"Oh, just shup up and p*ss off". Very well said JJ !
Svejk, the article in your link, its incredible, Lammy must think racism every time the word black is mentioned.
Surely they know his work is worth a lot of money. Maybe they were worried that someone would demolish the toilet wall for the picture to take it home.
I had a bit of a giggle about that, birds getting into the act as well.
