Time and time again the same story, a dog in a room with a young child. Will people never learn? You think a child is safe with someone and come back from your errnd to find a tragedy. Truly, truly heart breaking. So very sad for them.

I have a Granddaughter of 6 months who is so beautiful and happy The thought that this could ever happen to her - well it doesn't bear thinking about but life will never be the same for this family. If it is that the baby was left alone with this dog, I really really hope that someone will learn from this.

it makes me hopping mad. How *** stupid are these people. How many more kids have to die. Perhaps if they locked one of these idiots up for 10 years, the other idiots would take notice.

The problem is that many owners treat their dogs as human members of the family,not animals. Many dogs truly think they are the leader of the pack or they are jealous. They are not human have no human emotions and when they are upset they will either run away or attack depending on the breed. Its another tragedy that could have been prevented.

I can't be specific but I am sure there has been at least three incidents of dogs mauling babies/toddlers in the past three years where the child has been left with a grandmother who has a pitbull type dog. Why would a mature woman have such a dog?

Maybe I'm stereotyping both pitbulls and grandmothers.

hc4361, people old and young have been keeping bull breeds as pets for many many years, bull breeds have only come to the fore in recent years when it became "Macho" or "cool" to have one. I know people that are very respectable people keeping bull breeds because they make good pets in the right environment and with the right owners.
