At the risk of sounding harsh, if indeed he was found to be the killer then at least proper justice has been served and we won't have to waste taxpayer's money keeping him in a life of relative luxury.

I started a thread on this Chill but didn't have the foresight to say 'if', as you have.

By the way, I agree with you but think that the parents may feel that they have been deprived of some justice IF it is him.
Possible he saw her murder and was murdered as well.
since he can't be tried (if it is him), then he can't be "found" to be the killer.

Ladybirder posted a link on the other thread pointing out that there are two other unsolved murders in the same area, dating from before Zalkalns was there.
if he left a note or took a 'trophy', that'd be pretty conclusive, wouldn't it?

Apologies Zacs, didn't see your earlier thread.

What if he left a note confessing to the crime?
Or there is overwhelming forensic evidence that he committed the murder?
No need for an apology Chill but as you can see, the subject seems to bring out the dark side of people :-\
That's not justice. Years of having to live with yourself with loss of liberty is just punishment.

If he is the murderer he has escaped justice.
Many would say a life jail term isn't justice and others say suicide isn't either.

Someone once said to me that suicide was the cowards way out and that they should bring back capital punishment. Now that did leave me bemused...
you cant quite easily be found to have commited crimes after you are dead - jimmy saville, richard cazaly et all
