The scene in Silence Of The Lambs where Buffalo Bill entices the Senator's daughter by asking for help because his arm was in a (false) vast, was a tactic used by Bundy.

Sociopaths become excellent actors, able to mask their true natures from everyon up to and including partners, and family.
