// Five Kings War against Gibeon
…9So Joshua came upon them suddenly by marching all night from Gilgal. 10And the LORD confounded them before Israel, and He slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and pursued them by the way of the ascent of Beth-horon and struck them as far as Azekah and Makkedah. 11As they fled from before Israel, while they were at the descent of Beth-horon, the LORD threw large stones from heaven on them as far as Azekah, and they died; there were more who died from the hailstones than those whom the sons of Israel killed with the sword.//
There are many tales in the Holy Books of God smiting the enemies of the good people. Why oh why is Our God not smiting the wicked & evil so called Islamic State ?

I believe Jehovah was originally a war god of the Israelites. But now he is god of everyone he has had to broaden his appeal. It's a bit like David Cameron , spending the pre-election period smiting the heathen Labourites, then becoming PM and realising he is now their leader too and has to tone down the rhetoric a bit

Before being elevated in the ranks, Jehovah was originally a minor weather god, invoked to ensure the success of crops, etc. Once promoted to god of all, as Supreme Commander he was successful in eliminating the weak, but the strong proved to be rather beyond his capabilities, as this verse from the bible attests.
//And the LORD was with Judah, and he took possession of the hill country, but he could not drive out the inhabitants of the plain because they had chariots of iron. Judges 1:19//
The reason he’s not smiting anyone now - or saving anyone - is because he’s not there.

Here is a quote, word for word, from Tom Chivers. Hope you like it :
" I can’t prove that god doesn’t exist, or that we won’t live forever. I can’t prove anything, down to and including my name and the existence of Leamington Spa. Eventually, you just have to admit that if it looks like the absence of a duck, walks like the absence of a duck, and quacks like the absence of a duck, the duck is probably absent. ”

A strange deed! A most unusual work! That is what Jehovah performed in behalf of his people in ancient times,But Jehovah always gave fair warning.
Why, then, should anyone think that Jehovah will not do something similar in our own time? The fact is, he will fulfill his purpose even though it seems strange and unusual to doubters.
But this time the object of his action will be Christendom, which, like ancient Judah, claims to worship God but has become hopelessly corrupt.
For many years Jehovah’s Witnesses have warned of this coming judgment act by Jehovah. They have pointed out that the destruction of Jerusalem and its temple in 607 B.C.E. and again in 70 C.E. were prophetic warnings of what is to happen to Christendom. Moreover, they have demonstrated that Christendom, because of her apostasy, has become a part of the world empire of false religion, Babylon the Great. Because of this, God’s judgments on Babylon the Great will especially be visited on Christendom, since she is the guiltiest part of that satanic conglomerate.—Revelation 19:1-3.
