Both. Naming those found guilty allows the populous to see justice in action and that it is being applied fairly. Onthe other hand it ruins the life of those subsequently found to have experienced a miscarriage of justice and allows vigilante groups to stick their oar in. But one can't have everything. One either has this sort of thing as public knowledge, or not.

His naming aside, there do appear to be glaring errors or contradictions in the statement given by the Police(to the effect that nobody could have predicted or foreseen the tragic events) yet Sky News has excerpts from the Prosecution QC that this somewhat disturbed young man made a wish or threats to kill his teacher via Facebook in December 2013.

Its looks as if this lad will never leave prison, so I can't see what difference it makes if he is named or not. He might have been 15 when he murdered the Teacher but he is 16 now. He has every indication of being a psychopath, and I think that it is likely that he will kill again if he is able. Such a tragedy for such a young life, but he is a very nasty piece of work, and he has shown not a bit of remorse.

Just to clarify, no mention of the Facebook episode in the link, that was made via a caption with the Sky reporter outside the Court on live tv.

I think the point is that this information wasn't brought to the attention of the authorities. And from my understanding he had no previous criminal record or anything of the sort. So while it might have been known among his friends that he could have done such a thing, it was either a threat that wasn't taken seriously, or people were scared into silence. On the day he showed the murder weapon to friends with a warning not to tell or else he would kill them. Obviously he was entirely capable of carrying out that threat and there's no doubt he would have done so. Can you blame those friends of his for saying nothing? They might have been scared stiff, and perhaps were still unable to believe that he was actually going to go through with it.

I don't think anyone can be blamed for missing this. Sometimes there is nothing that could be done to stop a tragedy.

I wasn't trying to aportion blame jim and certainly not against any of his fellow pupils, it's just that what was revealed via the Prosecution evidence crtainly contradicted the Police statement.
Let's be clear, there should be no scapegoats over this and no pupil should reproach themselves, but it would appear that this tragedy had been simmering for several months.

Oh dear, how sad, never mind. It could be argued that anybody who stabs a 61 year old woman in the back for no good reason may be ill. They are certainly not all the ticket. His "recovery" (if he ever makes one) may or may not be hindered by the publication of his details. But as I said in answer to another question on the same subject, people are entitled to know who has committed the most serious of crimes and his requirements are not paramount.

NJ....I am with you here.....its not as if he was a little boy when he killed his Teacher. I have no qualifications in psychology but he seems to be a psychopath to me, and needs to go into Broadmoor.

jim, no you can't blame his 'friends' and other pupils. They are probably all suffering feelings of guilt, but the fact is that pupils bring weapons into schools (I've found them myself) and others would assume the usual braggadocio.
