A person in a wheelchair may not have any choice of being there, a child could get out of a pushchair and stand or sit on mums lap.

So a wheelchair would get priority in my view!

Could there not be provision for both? A harassed mom with a couple of screaming kids and a buggy laden with shopping deserves as much consideration in my opinion.

why has this even come up? The signage says what is a wheelchair space, they don;t even mention puch chairs on the buses I use, clearly this woman had her pram in that space. No brainer, the driver should have moved her and put the bloke in the wheelchair there. What we have here is a driver that needs to grow a pair. if I was the disabled bloke I'd get on put me brakes on and not move.

Here's a real experience someone I know had
Taking twins and a toddler to pick up elder sibling from school - the bus driver made her get off as the space could not fit wheelchair and double buggy - she was late to pick the other child up!

Most spaces can easily fit a chair and a buggy its just if someone decides to be difficult

How totally selfish of the mother to refuse to have the child on her lap and to fold up the pushchair knowing the wheelchair user would not be allowed to travel.

yes - they seem to be fitted with roo bars which mothers take great delight in ramming you with in Sainsbury's - and then they swear at you if you have the audacity to say "oww".

All it requires is a little bit of common sense, sadly lacking these days. What about a small notice in the designated space saying,"This space is for wheelchairs but can be used for push chairs if empty. The pushchair must be removed if a wheelchair user boards the bus".
