How many prized possessions would the fire-fighters had bothered to save, had it had been an ordinary working class residence?

Apart from this little bit of cynicism, thank goodness everyone came through it without a loss of life.

That's below the belt, aog. Your comments suggest a cynical disregard for the bravery and hard work of the fire service and that they offer an emergency valuables recovery service for antiques just for the wealthy.

That 'suggestion' of yours is not true; I know someone who had some valuable things recovered - a couple of paintings and three pieces of furniture, one of the paintings given to her by an aunt as a wedding present. She wasn't wealthy by any means - however, the recovery meant a lot to her as it meant that she hadn't lost everything....

Of course, they won't take unnecessary risks to recover items, but if they can, they will. An obvious one, generally speaking, is in rescuing family pets.

However, your choice of subject matter and your comment here could have been somewhat better.
I see you echo some of the comments in the link below the article, most of which were crass beyond belief.

Glad no injuries reported.

Crikey lighten up a little.
I am not too hot on material things - the cats have destroyed anything of value. They are now the only things that I value these days.

But the fire could have been so much worse in a built-up are like that. Fire is scary and unpredictable and I could never have been a fireman. Sitting at a desk was as exciting as my career plans went.

Mamy - I have given reading the comments below articles. Comments are not usually tongue in cheek (like AOG's) they are just bitter and twisted.

Admittedly I have a very dark sense of humour but some people become very brave with a little help from the anonymity of the Internet. Keyboard Warriors.

Was it Bill Oddies house. Is he still *** off about the Mansion Tax?
