This is quite appalling what they do to people, yet we have apologists on here continually telling us we should respect their ways.

all immigrants of Arabian background should immediately take up binge drinking, so as to fit in. They can't be truly British till they spend Friday night face down in the gutter.

If immigrating then yes, pretty much they should. They are being invited as guests and then as new members of a nation/community, and should, as part of accepting that offer, also accept the community should not change to their familiar customs but they are adopting those of the country they wish to be part of. It does not mean they have to indulge in all the worst practices or can not have views of their own, but it is implicit in becoming a citizen of a new country that you accept it as is.

In that particular case this community is already accepting there is no consensus, but at the same time there has been a shift towards tolerance and understanding over the last 50 years, and so extremes resulting in ostracization or violence, or similar are not to be tolerated. If an immigrant can not accept this then the UK is not the place they should be immigrating to.

The problem is that new arrivals to the UK cannot simply drop every cultural influence at Heathrow.
It's pretty horrific what young Asian gay men and women have to endure, and because (obviously) they have to keep their sexuality a secret, very little can be done by the wider community to support them.
It's made doubly difficult when some (on the pretext of 'caring' for young gay Asians) use their plight for their own racial agendas.
The problem is that new arrivals to the UK cannot simply drop every cultural influence at Heathrow.

And it's not just dropping al at Heath row, these attitudes are being passed down generations in this country so British people are the perpetrators.

I believe that what you are referring to is respecting specific traditions - I for one have no problem with Asians celebrating the Festival of Light, or fasting during Ramadan or praying in mosques or having three day weddings. Not a problem.
But you are conflating two completely separate issues to make a point. It's undertandable - but not valid.
You can accept cultural differences without accepting ALL cultural differences.

What I mean is that some people couldn't give a rat's behind about the plight of gay Asians. They pretend to, but unless they actively get involved in support groups (as I do), there will always be the suspicion (in my mind at least) that they are cynically using the issue to further their own agendas.

The Anglican Church holds less sway over the way that we think. Church attendance is dwindling and as we become a more secular society, open acceptance of gay people increases.
However, in societies where the Church (mosque or synogogue) is still very important, so the persecution of gay people will continue.

But that is not the same as saying they should speak English and nothing else, and start eating fish and chips (or chiken tikka masala!!!) for every meal.
My mother-in-law is Irish and has lived here since 1952, but she still enjoys listening to Irish radio to hear people speak as she does - and no-one would deny her that.
