It appears he was claiming expenses for staying at a flat which was apparently in his wife's name, though they both stay there. He is not really entering into the spirit of the process, and seems to be in it for how much money he can make (history repeating there). It would be interesting to know the amount of money involved. Mr Hamilton, UKIP's deputy chairman, said his decision to withdraw from the Basildon selection process was nothing to do with expenses, but that it was a UKIP dirty trick to stitch him up

I thought parties usually invoked dirty tricks against other parties?

Ukip are different!
Err, dont you pick the best candidates to sit. Any whiff of scandal and all the haters of the 'Ghastly' UKIP would be out in force.

Even when they are trying to keep clean the 'Ghastly' UKIP haters are still out!!

UKIP has massively grown now, if you take your blinkers off and have a real unbiased look. This means a wider choice of candidate so they can avoid further accusation of being 'swivel eyed loonies' or other such derogatory terms. There is now no need to take a chance on someone and that is what they appear to be doing. Downside of that of course is less free advertising, but I'm sure the good old BBC will find something!

Oh -it did!

Yep, now that the People's Army is on the march, competition for places and candidacy has become tight.
A sign of a healthy party. I would imagine candidates in the others would have to be dragged kicking and screaming in the current climate!
Shouldn't that be 'The Ghastly racist Peoples Army' ChillD ?
Blimey Jomlett, thanks for the great link! All I can say is: well done UKIP.
If only the House of Commons had been as stringent when we had MP's claiming for duck houses and moat cleaning!

It would be interesting to know the amount of money involved. As it is, he appears to have made many enemis in the party (again, history repeating), and it may be a barrier to him becoming an MP again. Which is a good thing.
// He is not really entering into the spirit of the process, and seems to be in it for how much money he can make (history repeating there). //

On the contrary, he sounds like a perfect candidate for parliament.

Won't he be forever tainted with associations of brown envelopes stuffed with cash got from a Middle Eastern gentleman?
I have said this before sandy, but the fact that UKIP would allow this man anywhere near the Party shows exactly how they are completely lacking in credibility.

They might as well ask Jeffrey Archer to join as well and be done with it.

Neil Hamilton was, I heard, being drafted in to replace Natasha Bolter, the ex-Labour member at the centre of the er, "Roger Birds", sorry "Bird" affair

This a bit like Roger Mellie being given one last chance not to swear but ...
I am hoestly sick and tired of those idiots foisting their rubbish down our throats to be honest
I would take anything that horse natasha says with a pinch of salt especially after her apparent nazi conections were made public
^Alledgedly^
Allegedly you just spelt that wrong......
Ms Bolter's reputation and judgment is I agree is a bit suspect, given she left Labour in the hope UKIP might be more politically correct (!!!!!)
But her reputation is not really relevant to the Hamilton accusations
