The All New Friday Debate Thread
Go on just a wee idea.... Todays debate topic:
Nigel Farage, is he actually racist??
My opinion, I'm not certain he can be classed as a racist to be honest. If what he wants is to put Brits first, is that so wrong. Putting the Poor, needy and pensioners first is a good thing, restricting immigration to stop our wealth leaving the Uk id a good thing, Changing the rules to ensure those who come do so with the right intent is a good thing, mirroring our immigration rules to that of other countries is a good thing....
Play nice now children... ;0)

No he's not, the anti British/lefty brigade will label someone racist for having legitimate concerns about immigration and indeed wanting to run our own country rather than being subgugated by unelected foriegn beauracrats. As question time demonstrated last night, if someone does not have the prescribed view on something there is an insult ready the arsenal.
I'll nick ludwig's post from the other thread, which is 100%
spot on and which I agree with wholeheartedly:
ludwig
Accusations of racism are losing their effect because they're so overused, it's all become a bit a joke.
It's like the word has lost it's meaning having been aimed initially at racists (correctly), but then morphing to include anyone expressing concern about immigration, islamist terrorism, the EU, or basically anyone else the accuser didn't like on the basis they held right wing views.
People shouting the word without thinking are starting to look stupider than the person they're shouting it at.
A Labour politician said exactly that following the Thornberry faux pas and that his party had better start listening to the working man on the street, whom they no longer represent.

I suspect Nigel Farage quite likes being branded a racist occasionally because he can hide behind this accusation while the real issues with his views get overlooked
The lady with the blue hair on QT gets all the publicity and his core support just thinks Good old Nige picked on again by the communist BBC :-)
It's all good publicity
It is possible for Nige not to be a racist and still be a disaster area as a politician
The reason some people think he IS a racist is the way he presents his arguments and as I said before that means that his party will never achieve a serious and permanent place in British politics as they are like a wart that has grown out of one or two people's sentimental longing for a 'British' Britain in a world of change and uncertainty. You can't base a serious and viable political movement on that basis however well-intentioned

I fail to see the logic of the statement "restricting immigration to stop our wealth leaving the UK".
The bulk of our wealth is surely now controlled by Global Corporations. If you are referring to the relatively small amounts that immigrants send home to kin abroad, then I think this is rather putting things a bit out of proportion.

" Like a wart that has grown out one or two people's sentimental longing for a 'British' Britain " eh?
The usual expletives we have come to expect, from the anti-British traitors
I think you will find that there are more than just one or two who love this country of ours and have every wish for it to remain a very 'British' Britain.

Ok Canary... from personal experience...
A very nice Polish lady comes to work locally in a hairdressers, she's entitled to full health care and prioritised housing. She doesn't have to pay tax or Ni for two years then disappears back home after two years to her chain of hairdressers shops in Krackow. Once employed she's safe because you can't sack her .... Over the two years she's made about £45K less living expenses, that money leaves our economy.
ONE person isn't a massive problem, the thousands we see across the UK in various occupations IS an issue.

btw - re your hairdresser. we have the same in our very small village with one of the few local shops and another in another fairly near. There are a number working in the hotels nearby and also quite a few flower and vegetable pickers. the ones I have met are very nice people but already the sums are starting to add up.
Thanks for the example Slapshot. If all the immigrants returned home like your Polish Lady, then you would have a case (albeit relatively trivial compared with the likes of Amazon, Google, Apple, Ebay etc), but what percentage do follow Polish Lady's example.
And although not paying NI or Tax, the lady did put money back into the economy ("living expenses") - and anyway the "cure" is to amend the tax/NI concessions, not victimise the people.
The demonisation of relatively harmless minority groups is a very useful smokescreen for the enormous financial injustices which go on elsewhere (with much emphasis on the word "relatively" to avoid an onslaught from the usual xenophobes).

ichkeria, for some reason you continually fail to understand the reason behind the British man. We all know, your avita gives it away (and yo uwere probably one who got me banned from avitars for life because of my anti EU one) that you do not like being British. However, many of us do like our identity (as in most other countries around the globe) and do not want to see it eroded by too many people from different background.
Controlled immigration (not on set targets before you start) is good, uncontrolled is not. The infrastructure of a country simply cannot ebb and flow that quickly to cope so all those living permanently in a country suffer (yes, black white purple - this is not a race issue)
I'm sure you will come up with more names and labels to call me but it really is showing your very blinkered and intolerant approach to others' views

Ymb some parts of your post is utterly baffling esp the bit about avatars (!)
Otherwise,as I indicated before, the arguments you put forward are perfectly respectable. Nothing wrong with pitting an anti-EU case, or even one that would favour restricting immigration. It is UKIP and their 'ethos' if you like which is the issue for me
