It looks as if its going to be an offence to smoke in a car with children. I am all for it and I know some on here, like T³ hates smoking as well. But what do the rest of us think ?

Put simply, do you think subjecting children to cigarette smoke in a car is a good thing or not ?

Bad thing.
How can anyone think it's a good thing? Some (idiots) will see it as further infringements on their freedom, I suppose.
In my view smoking in cars should be banned period.
Obviously it cant be a good thing. but how do you police it?
I'm getting mixed messages Zacs-Master. Is there a 'not' missing from your post?

trt.......how do we Police the drink-driving laws, wearing of seat belts, use of Mobile phones, or pretty much every other motoring law ? What is to stop you driving at 80 mph, past a school, in a 30 mph limit ?

Just because something is difficult to "police" doesn't mean that its not right to have the law in the first place is it ?
Of course it is not a good thing. Let's hope they have more luck policing this than they do with stopping people using their phones in cars.
Douglas.

A: How can anyone think it's a good thing?

What's so difficult to understand?

In defence of douglas, I too was a bit confused about whether you thought the banning idea was a good or a bad thing.
I see. I had taken your reply to be addressing the 'Smoking Ban In Cars' rather than part of the text.
All is now clear, you may dismount.
Even when I used to smoke many years ago I never smoked in the car nor have I ever allowed people to smoke in any of my cars, some times you have enough trouble driving without having smoke in your eyes and you can NEVER get rid of the smell and that's before you start on the effect secondary smoking can have on kids in an enclosed space like a car.The only trouble is going to be enforcing it every day you see people using their phones while driving and how long has that been against the law

Partly my fault for wording my question rather awkwardly...apologies.
If I ruled the world tra la la, I would ban smoking full stop! As this isn't possible, I would definitely ban anyone from smoking near all children ( in or out of a car) or grown ups who don't wish to be exposed to it.
Cheeky blighter. It was you on you 18 hand mare!
Never did me any harm.

This has been a law in Ontario for a couple of years now. I forget what is classed as a "child': under 14 or 16, something in that area.
OK, as a matter of interest, it has been in effect since 2009; a child is 16 and under; and the fine is $125.
Well obviously nowadays it's a bad thing to smoke in a car with children present.
When I was pregnant in 1969 I smoked, drank alcohol, ate nasty things like pate, liver, and soft cheeses etc which are all now no no's............it's just a miracle my daughter survived...
One story that made the news was a cop pulled a car over, and while he was writing a ticket for the smoking driver, the kid got out of the car and lit a cigarette!

Stuey...what is the general opinion of the public in your part of Canada to the ban ?
