Don't you love hyperbole.....Canary can have a job writing titles for the Mail!

Though in Wales, it may be true, given the 'legacy' the Labour party have given it. Who is going to sort that mess out, the English perhaps?

"...its up to us in Wales where and what we spend our money on."

Yes unfortunately most of "our" money is not raised in Wales at all, Mikey, but in England. And that's the main reason why devolution was a scandal for the English.
//The people have spoken Blackadder....its called democracy.//

True, but only because it is paid for by English gold. No English subsidies to devolved assemblies/parliaments and then see how far you get.
>>but the NHS is still safer in the hands of Labour than the Tories.

But the country isn't.

Labour have always got plenty of (our) money to spend on things, but then finish up bankrupting the country.

And with welfare, well we spend nearly 20 BILLION pounds a year on housing benefit.

And just this week an Asian woman in my street was taken to court for claiming over £20,000 in housing benefit when she claimed she was paying rent but in fact owned the house herself.

How many thousands of others are doing the same all over the country.

We need to cut the welfare bill DRASTICALLY (but removing the people who claim illegally for a start).
The NHS needs to go back to its core ideal, curing the sick, not for example cosmetic surgery because someone has low self-esteem. I can't imagine Nye Bevin envisaging spoilt kids making unrealistic demands on the NHS.
Good point zebo, the NHS Nye Bevan brought in was a very different animal. It was far more basic altogether and much less expensive but came in during a time of austerity.
Is the welsh Nhs any better under Labour?
ALL politicians , ALL parties promise to look after the NHS, they ALL lie. The NHS is slowly, by stealth, being splintered off in to private hands. When a politician says "the NHS is safe in my/our hands"... don't believe a word of it.
Just one more example of everything that was best for England being destroyed by the hordes of immigrants, let in by Labour, most who originally never paid a penny into the system. The same can be said for the problems with our Schools, housing, and transport etc.
In a good mood this morning, then, aog. ;-)
I can see where you're coming from zebo but partly the reason for the change is that what counts as "sick" has changed. Mental health problems barely got any attention when the NHS was founded. I still don't think they get enough. Cosmetic surgery is perhaps not the answer to self-esteem issues, and people who ask for that should perhaps be discouraged from pursuing it or referred to counselling first, but we should be careful of treating "going back to 1948" as the ultimate goal. The world has moved on.
"NHS almost Destroyed" - stop it my sides are splitting! Really canary what a load of old pony. They got busy that's all, bit more demand, geddit? Hardly destroyed!
//I can't imagine Nye Bevin envisaging spoilt kids making unrealistic demands on the NHS. //

it's also possible that he (or anyone else in 1948) could never have conceived of how technology would move on, and that there'd be routine treatments and procedures that easily sort conditions which in former years meant certain death. which is all good for the patient, but represents an ever growing financial need.
Re Prescription charges in England.,,they are free to children, over 60's (like me) and those with various medical conditions (like my wife, unfortunately).
Nothing is free Mikey, in the end someone has to pay for it.
