I have to admit to being a bit shocked that Nicola Sturgeon would act as a witness in Scotlands first lesbian marriage. I think that is inappropriate surely she should be impartial I think her decision to stand as witness is fundamentally wrong there is no mention that she is a friend of the couple just the fact that it is the first and she is first minister

you don't have to be a friend to be a witness; it's a more or less legal requirement, so that there's independent confirmation that the wedding took place. The better known the witnesses, the more reliable the confirmation, so they chose well.

As for being impartial, should she witness some invalid marriages as well, just for balance?
