I can`t believe the amount of people who cycle around here at night, wearing dark clothing and with no lights. Have they got a death wish? If they can afford two hundred quid for a bike, surely they can afford £20 for some lights.

Totally agree. And you don't need to spend 20 quid, you can pick up a full set of lights in Poundland! I always make sure I'm dressed in my brightest possible kit with 2 lights to the front, 2 at the rear and one on my helmet.

Bit of a pathetic post for a fairly rare occurence, especially when you read this from your own link:
On average, three pedestrians die each year in Britain in collisions with cyclists. Just ten per cent of those accidents occur on footways.
In contrast, about 40 pedestrians are killed annually by motor vehicles on footways or verges, the CTC said.
